The recent cartoon movie Rio is named about the famous city Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The movie is about a blue parrot that is smuggled out of the country as baby bird to be sold in the United States. Through a complicated set of events, the bird, named Blu, ends up being best friends with a human in Minnesota but then traveled back to Rio to mate with another blue parrots in order to save his species. Much of the movie takes place in Rio and its surrounding areas of Brazil. Really, the movie is a great tourism marketing tool for Brazil vacations. Here are three reasons highlighted in the film as to why Rio de Janeiro, and Brazil in general, is a great place to visit.
- The Amazon. The whole movie is based off of the wonderful wildlife that can be found in the Amazon rainforest. Although the Amazon is actually spread out across several South American countries, the majority of it falls into Brazil. The deep depths of the Amazon are still actually unexplored. The Amazon houses hundreds of plants, bird, mammal and other species. What is really highlighted in the movie is the amazing diversity of colorful birds that can be found in Brazil.
- Carnival. In the movie, one conflict in the plot is that it takes place during Carnival. This means the streets are blocked off and transportation through the city is difficult and congested, and the characters are forced to “join” the parade in order to get where they need to go. Even though in the movie Carnival becomes an obstacle, the fun of the music and the dancing is still highlighted. In real life, Carnival is the biggest party in Latin America and goes on for today. The whole country gets decked out in fancy costumes for some good old fun. Carnival takes place in early February and is a great time to visit Brazil. Make sure you make your plans slightly in advance because hotel rooms will fill up early.
- A Carefree Lifestyle. Life in Latin America is more relaxed than other places… like Minnesota (as portrayed in the movie). The carefree lifestyle isn’t for everyone, but it is definitely nice for a vacation away from home. Take a trip to Brazil and experience the friendly locals and everything goes attitude for yourself. It is a liberating experience that will have you wanting to come back for more. You might even up moving to Brazil, like the characters in the movie.
